Well, I am not so sure about telnets.
To me they seem like old technology. Technology like command prompt and using DOS to navigate around something that can be done and used through an online database or online catologue, which mosts universities or educational institutions are using these days.
However this is the case, I am constantly using command prompts and writing batch files that use command prompts. So, it's not like I don't know how to use the technology, I just don't agree that it is a good idea for internet users as what is being offered can be shown in more user friendly ways through online databases.
I completed the task and was shown two authors with the last name of Bennahum;
1 Bennahum David A 1936 ............................... 1 entry
2 Bennahum Ninotchka ................................... 1 entry
I found that the instructions provided on the NET11 WebCT site were simplistic. I was able to use my initiative and find may way through, so this is probably why the instructions were lacking a little.
EDIT - POSTED 28/12/08
I think Telnet has fallen victim to the way our society functions, in an IT sense - constantly changing!New and better and more improved solutions are available. Eg in this task we had to search for an author using a telnet. However online library databases, which provide a more user friendly approach and definetely at least have some sort of GUI, are more common and are, as stated, user friendly - so are adopted more. Although I must admit - i am amazed at the telnet pictures, i think its called ascii art. the amount of time people spend on them is crazy - why aren't they out surfing instead?

Well done. Sounds like you're breezing through these tasks. So why do you think Telnet is no longer used? When did the switch happen? What replaced it?
