Final post for this unit

Well what a unit NET11 was!

Overall, two thumbs up. Although it wasn't all smooth sailing. There were good times and there were bad, and I will elaborate on them further in another blog entry. Overall this blog entry is to say thankyou to my followers, thankyou to my tutors and thanks to the virtual classmates of NET11. I hope you all have enjoyed the subject.

I have finally memorised my student number. 14361102 - on the final day I memorise it. That's a problem..... lol

ENJOY ALL GOODLUCK FOR THE FUTURE

paulynichols says:yes. i feel that as well

Ash says:n the advertsAsh says:i love this medium of communicating

Ash says:but feel that this must not be the only means

paulynichols says:i also dislike how hard it can be to express emotions. however that is a problem with all non-voice communication

Ash says:as one may never really know the other person

Ash says:thank u also n hopefully will chat again..bye

paulynichols says:yes hopefully

Difference between the two

Well there is a major difference between the two sites when I click on them.

The Internet Communications blinklist looked like this:

There is an error with the website. And it doesn't load properly.
The other site provides a lot of resources and links to other sites. It is not formatted well, and is difficult to read, but alas does provide useful information.

What I have read about blogs and what i think

Blogs can be used for many reasons. So far in the research for this subject I have seen blogs used for:
Political News stories and opinions
Travel Updates and news
Personal blogs- life updates
And for NET11 at University :P

These are what I have found.

Blogging is useful for some people, and some people find it a good way to discuss what they are feeling. Really though? Sad to say, but I don't think blogging is for me. I just do not get the satisfaction of writing things on the internet, hehe and I don't think "forcing" me to do it for this uni subject has helped much as well.

However I say that now, but I can see myself in the future using a blog to record my thoughts. I have a strong interest in politics, chinese economy business and political situation, and just business practice in general. Posting a blog could be my way of getting my opinions across. So who knows? Maybe I will be using it in the future......... uh oh it's starting to grow on me.!

Uploaded page

I have uploaded my page to the presentations site of Curtin as I am an off-campus student.
I have an issue though, the image logo2 is not displaying. I cannot understand why. If I was to place the image in a seperate folder from group128 in say the net11 folder, then change my source code to show this, it may work. I will try this after posting the blog. hehe If you can see it, you know it worked

LEGALITY OF WEBSITES

1. Have you used images or words on your web page or website that contravene copyright laws?
I haven't used any images on my webpage that contravene copyright laws. The images on my site are designed and made by myself

Would you be in breach of copyright if you put the Curtin logo at the top of your web page for an assignment? This information may be difficult to find so be prepared for a search and some independent thought!
Well, first of all I wouldn't put the logo of Curtin on my page because it has no relevance to my site. But if I was to, I don't think it would be a breach of copyright, if I was able to explain and there was a legitimate reason it was on there. Because Curtin are an educational institution, it may be neccessary for people to display their logo on their own site. I feel that if I was to put the logo on my site, and be able to source where it came from and mention Curtin there would be no issue. Also, as I am a member of Curtin while I am studying, I would feel that I am able to use the logo whilst I am studying there.

5 most important rules of online writing

I believe the five most important rules for online writing are:

1. Use links in your webpage, that are relevant to the content of the page and that are reliable sources. Also remember, that it isn't neccessary to ask permission to link to another person's site. This is how the internet functions!!

2. Grab the readers attention from the start. If you want someone to read your site, make it interesting from the word "go" (don't literally put "go", it wouldn't make sense). Also remember, with your writing - if you tend go on on people are going to get bored, and will not visit your site again

3. Make your page easy to navigate around. If it's easy to navigate, it's easy to use, it's more friendly to use, and you will receive more hits.

4. Make sure the information you provide is in a large enough font, justified and formatted so it is easy for the user to find key words.

5. Simple=Easy to use. Easy to use=more visitors. More visitors= good website. Good website=happiness for you

Finished the webpage

I have used HTML briefly before.

The biggest issue I had with the site, was thinking of what i was going to put in there! It was just crazy. I've never had to build a site with no purpose before.

The other problem I had was that even the most basic of syntax errors can make your page not work. It's crazy. And unlike visual basic coding, or any other, with HTML - the writing doesn't change colour if there is an error and there is no debugger built in with notepad, hahaha. Notepad thought. I love how it is possible to build one of the most complex things, from such a basic program. It's just awesome.

Sense of achievement? Heaps, finishing a page that was annoying you, that you had errors with, that you worked through to fix all errors, it's just a rewarding experience.

This is a screenshot of my page

Blogging and HTML can be similiar and they can be different, with http://www.blogger.com/ you are able to use HTML to put in a blog. But they also have a gui you can use to put the info in as well.

I think I like HTML best, it makes me feel nerdy

The site - what info works best?

1 In terms of your own future use, which 'body ' of information (ie. the original 'snapshot' of the site, or your own, annotated, analytical version) would be most useful to refer back to?

My annotated reference provides more information about the site and its usefulness. It provides a basic analysis of what content is available on the site, and also lets me know that the site is from a reliable source. It also explains that the site was created for someone elses use, so therefore allows me to understand whether the information is useful for my needs.

2. In term of external users (i.e. if you included this site as a hyperlink or resource on a website) which body of information would best help them judge if the site was useful or of interest to them?

The introduction to the information provided on the site, and the hyperlinks created at the top of the page allows the user to know what is on the site without having to scroll to see each individual heading. Therefore this information is the best in the body of the website for an external user to know if the site is useful for their needs.

Annotated reference for Introduction: China's Political System

This is an annotated reference for the website http://afe.easia.columbia.edu/china/gov/backgrnd.htm

This website explains, describes and give background information regarding China's political system. It provides different sections of information:

1. History

a) The people's republic of china

b) The great leap forward and the Sino-Soviet Split

c) The cultural revolution

d) The Post-Mao era

e) 1989 Student Movement and Tiananmen Square

f) Third Generation of Leaders

g) Government

h)Chinese Communist Party

i) State Structure

j) Legal System

2. Chronology of chine under Mao

The website provides very useful information for my subject regarding the Chinese Political system and economical situation. It can be said to be from a reliable resource as it is from Columbia university, and educational institution and their project on East Asian curriculum. This is also the purpose for why the site was constructed.
